An estimated 103,752 pounds of chicken nuggets made in Canada that may be contaminated with metal pieces have been recalled. The product recall being conducted by Maxi Canada Inc. of Quebec affects products exported to the United States and shipped nationwide to retail locations in the United States, including Wal-Mart, Safeway and Kroger stores. The chicken nugget products being recalled were produced in July 2015 and were shipped to the U.S. between July 30, 2015, and March 5, 2016. They are the 38-ounce (2.975 pound) boxes of Yummy brand fully cooked Chicken Breast Nuggets, 100 Percent All Natural Nugget-Shaped Chicken Breast Patty Fritters with Rib Meat with a best if used by date of July 17, 2017. The products bear establishment number “Canada Est. 348” and UPC number 064563225782. The problem was discovered when a consumer from the United States lodged a complaint with Maxi Canada after finding a foreign object in the product. Maxi Canada initiated the recall and Canadian food inspectors subsequently notified the USDA.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions resulting from the consumption of the product being recalled. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness potentially associated with the recalled product should contact a health care provider. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Consumers with food safety questions can “Ask Karen,” the Food Safety Inspection Service’s virtual representative, available 24 hours per day at AskKaren.gov.
