Nipponflex of Pompano Beach, Fla., has recalled about 400 Nipponflex Smart Flex and Smart Care mattresses. The mattresses fail to meet the mandatory federal flammability standard for mattresses, posing a fire hazard. This recall involves all models and sizes of Nipponflex Smart Care, Smart Care split, Smart Flex and Smart Flex split mattresses. The mattresses are white in color and have an electric massage function controlled by a remote. The split mattresses consist of two single mattresses side by side to form a queen or king size mattress. “Nipponflex” and “SMART FLEX” or “SMART CARE” are printed on the label on a side of the mattress.
The mattresses were sold at independent distributors via in-home sales in Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Utah and Virginia from April 2014 through February 2015 for between $2,000 and $7,000. Consumers should contact Nipponflex for free mattress covers to bring the mattress into compliance with the federal standard and protect consumers from a fire. Assistance with installation is available upon request.
