Our firm has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the Circuit Court of Jefferson County, Alabama, Bessemer Division. On December 8, 2006, James and Lula Maddox were front seat occupants in a 1993 Ford Escort. A Chrysler PT Cruiser drifted into their lane of travel and hit the couple head-on. Both vehicles were traveling at relatively slow speeds. Both James and Lula Maddox were killed instantly despite the fact that the occupants of the Chrysler PT Cruiser walked away relatively uninjured. Our investigation into the crash has determined that defects in the design of the seat belt prevented the belt from providing proper restraint and that the belt itself was the cause of the deaths. The poorly designed system could have been improved with an inexpensive routing clip that would have ensured proper belt performance. Chris Glover and Cole Portis from the firm will handle this case.
