There are all kinds of rumors floating around concerning the political future of Governor Bob Riley. Even his detractors have to admit that the Clay County native is very popular around the state and most of them will tell you privately that he has done an outstanding job as Governor. But nobody really seems to know what his future political plans are. Personally, I don’t believe he would challenge Senator Richard Shelby, which is one of the most discussed rumors. First, they are very good friends and more importantly, nobody could beat Shelby in Alabama.

Another rumor is that the Governor would take over as Chancellor of The Troy University System after backing his friend Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. for Governor in 2010. It’s my opinion that this is just another Goat Hill rumor. In any event, I guess we will just have to wait for a while to see if Governor Riley can find something to run for. I really can’t see him retiring from public life and going back to Clay County.
