PFC’s
We are currently seeking class action certification in the State of Minnesota against 3M resulting from PFC contamination by 3M of waste disposal areas and property surrounding one of its plants, causing the contamination of nearby drinking water supplies. PFCs is an abbreviation for a family of chemicals known as perfluorocarbons. This group of chemicals is man-made and is extremely resistant to heat. It is our contention that property surrounding 3M’s Cottage Grove, Minnesota plant and certain waste disposal areas, along with public and private sources of drinking water, have been contaminated by the release and disposal for decades of PFCs from 3M’s Cottage Grove, Minnesota plant. In turn, the contamination of the drinking water supplies has led to increasing levels or “body burdens” of PFCs in the blood of affected area residents, including children and the elderly.
You may note that PFCs have some similar qualities to PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), the chemicals at issue in the litigation we handled related to Anniston, Alabama. There are differences, but both are extremely heat resistant, accumulate in the body, and persist in the human body for a long period of time once they enter. The attorneys primarily handling this matter are David Byrne, Mark Englehart, and Rhon Jones.
