A jury in Connecticut has returned a $15.8 million verdict against Lane Construction Corp. of Cheshire, Conn. Brenda Gump-Schragl, a Pennsylvania woman, had sued for injuries she suffered in a work zone crash that occurred one day before her daughter’s wedding five years ago. Ms. Gump-Schragl, who was 56 years old, sued Lane, claiming the a construction site on Route 51 was dangerous and that the company made no changes despite other crashes having occurred along the construction zone in Pleasant Hills. Another driver involved in the crash and PennDOT had previously settled claims out of court. Ms. Gump-Schragl was in a coma for five weeks, has no short-term memory, and relies on a walker due to her injuries. Her daughter’s marriage was postponed for a year due to the crash.
