Dog fighting rings, doing business all across the U.S., have become a big, powerful and lucrative industry. It’s now a huge money-making industry that is taking advantage of animals and also people who respect the rule of law and common decency. The innocent dogs – who can’t help themselves – must be protected. This inhumane activity must be stopped and those engaged in the rings prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Any person who would grossly mistreat dogs by chaining them outside in the elements with little or no food for long periods of time and then throw them into a ring to fight other dogs for survival is about as low as a human being can get. Such a person deserves to be punished harshly, including the spending of time in prison for a lengthy period of time. As you may know sponsoring dog fighting is a felony in all 50 states.
There is a federal criminal case pending in the Middle District of Alabama. It appears that most all of the 15 people who were arrested in a multi-state dog fighting investigation will plead guilty. The ring was operating in East Alabama and apparently on a large scale. Apparently least one of the defendants will be heading to trial in July. Hopefully the sentences for those who were involved in this criminal activity will receive significant jail time. It’s time to send a message to this industry. The sentences given to these criminals will send a strong message to the dog fighting industry.
