The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has closed an investigation into driver’s side door fires in Jeep Liberty SUVs without requiring a recall. NHTSA investigated complaints of fires in the power window switches on 2012 Libertys. But according to the agency, they found that the failure rate for the switches was low, and the rate of fires even lower. Initially NHTSA said it had two complaints about fires in the driver’s side window switch. But investigators found that one fire didn’t start in the switch. The agency said in documents posted on March 13 that it found no indication of a trend, so it closed the probe. According to NHTSA, the investigation covered 104,593 Libertys.
