New Health Protections For Women Are Now In Place

The first of August was a gold-medal day for women’s health in this country. It marked the beginning of new health insurance benefits for women under the Affordable Care Act. New protections that went into effect offer great preventative services with no co-pay. They include annual well-woman visits and cancer screening, breastfeeding supplies and support, HIV/STD screening and, in most plans, family planning with contraception and sterilization. I am somewhat surprised that there was very little media attention given to this matter. It seems to be most significant for women and families across the U.S.

Mr. Beasley-

I too am surprised that the media did not pick up on this story. In fact I cannot believe the media have virtually ignored the many stories of the ongoing injuries women are suffering due to the placement of polypropylene mesh for prolapse, incontinence and hernia repair, which of course effects men as well.

Where is the media? Oh wait, so many advertisers are drug and medical device companies. They would be foolish to run critical stories of their advertisers.

Without enlightening the public, injuries will continue to occur, the public suffers, we all pay in the form of disability, repeated surgeries and workers removed from the workforce.

Contact your local media and ask them to report stories that are impacting their viewers, readers. These are your public airwaves! And please support and read independent media that is trying to fill the gaps. Thank you.
