The One-Percent Flock To $50,000 Per Person Romney Fundraisers

The campaign last month held another of its fundraisers restricted to the Super-Rich at David Koch’s mansion in the Hamptons. The $50,000-per-plate fundraiser was typical of similar events held by Gov. . There is no doubt that billionaires like the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelson intend to buy themselves a President. Unfortunately, unless ordinary folks wake up, they may be successful. But I have to believe that the message from events like this one will eventually sink in to working men and women and retirees, many of whom have been actually voting for candidates like , and against their own economic interests. When that message is heard and understood, I predict you will see the momentum swinging strongly in favor of President Obama.

Gov. – even when dressed out in his starched and obviously new blue jeans – simply doesn’t understand the problems and concerns of ordinary folks. His 1% agenda is driven by men like the Koch brothers and others and offers little – if anything – to the vast majority of Americans. If the Obama campaign doesn’t sell this message, it will be their own fault. They have a golden opportunity to turn a close election into one that won’t be that close but they must stay on a strong message that turns loose the power of the American people between now and election day in November. I will take “people power” anytime over the big money men who have to like the 1% agenda because they formulated it.

I don’t believe there will be many folks voting for President Obama who can afford to pay $50,000 for a meal with their candidate. But the candidate whose agenda excludes 99% of the American people hasn’t had much trouble attracting those who can afford to give millions and they are pumping huge sums of money into the campaign and into the SuperPACs. Any person who believes that the billionaires bankrolling Gov. have any interest in helping the 99% who will be left behind in the event becomes President will learn the hard way that they are badly mistaken. But unfortunately for them – and actually for the country – it will be too late to do anything to rectify their mistake.

Obama had $35,000 a plate fundraiser at Gloria Estefan’s home for the 2008 Election! That doesn’t sound to me like the 99% either. And there was another one in NYC recently also for $35,000 to $40,000 per person.

Stop with the hypocrisy and disinformation and stop trying to represent the Obamas as for the 99%! Michelle Obama spends like crazy, takes lavish vacations etc. and lives probably even more flamboyantly than the Romneys. But Obama money comes from government while Romney money comes from private enterprise.

This article is very misleading. Both parties have lavish fundraisers for Presidential Candidates and none of them holds back. It’s the way things are being done on both sides of the aisle. What’s fair is fair!

Why make a fuss over how much per plate a fund raiser is? Neither party is going to turn down wealthy donors and to imply that Romney, or Bush, or Clinton, or any past candidates are tainted on that basis is to paint them all with the same brush–they all take donations from extraordinarily wealthy donors.

Obama is purchasing his votes with the U.S. Treasury. While many of us will be only marginally affected by this, many of the middle class will slowly be pushed into a marginal economic state by the current policies, so the majority middle class is being harmed much more by the current administration than they would by a fiscally conservative candidate,–something we haven’t had since 1980.

Only aggressive and painful tax reform and reduction of public services from which we will all suffer will right the ship and prevent the economic demise of this country. That will not come from the Obama camp–he is philosophically opposed to independence of the populace and is using the combination of economic incentive for votes from the lower class and oppression of the middle class to accomplish his own philosophy. The rich, while not immune, have no real standing in the issue if quality of life is the basis for standing.
