Favorite Bible Verse

Edna Gatewood, a long time member of St. James United Methodist Church, sent in a verse for this issue. Edna has been a good friend and is one of the biggest Auburn football fans in the land. She says this verse has been her rock and sustainer since her husband Bob died back in 1984. Edna says God has walked with her and held her hand all the way to the present day and that she lifts His name daily for comfort and support.

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Isaiah 41:10

Mitchell Dubina, a friend who is a Vice-President with Sterne Agee, sent in his favorite for this issue. Mitchell is in the Lions Club with me and a good man.

If God is for us, who can ever be against us?

Romans 8:31

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Mindy Newell, who serves as Secretary-Treasurer of Iron Men Outdoor Ministries, sent in a verse for this issue. As you may know, IMOM is a non-profit corporation. Its declaration of purpose and faith is mainly to declare the love of Jesus Christ for children. They do good work especially with youngsters who have some type of disability.

As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

Proverbs 27:17

LaShunda Cobb, one of our very good employees in the Mass Torts Section, furnished her favorite verse for this issue.

“In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world”

John 16:33

Robert H. Mount, a retired professor of Zoology at Auburn University, sent in his favorite verse. I met Bob years ago when he visited the state capitol and was very glad to hear from him.

Will you speak wickedly for God, And talk deceitfully for Him? Will you show partiality for Him? Will you contend for God? Will it be well when He searches you out? Or can you mock Him as one mocks a man? He will surely rebuke you If you secretly show partiality.

Job 13:7-10

My friend Bill Wynn sent in a verse for this issue. Accompanying the verse was a photo of a “mother bird” with two little birds safely and securely tucked under her wings. That’s quite descriptive for those of us who depend on our Heavenly Father for protection.

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust.

Psalm 91:4

Another friend, Rad Dodson, a Montgomery businessman, sent in a verse that is meaningful to all Christians. It contains a promise that no person living can afford to ignore.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

Lem Howell, a very good from Seattle, sent in a verse from Micah. This is a message that speaks to all of us and especially to lawyers.

He halth shewed thee O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Micah 6:8
