If things go as planned, Sue Bell Cobb will have stepped down on August 1st as Alabama’s Chief Justice. The highest-ranking Democrat in Montgomery made her surprise announcement last month. Most likely Gov. Robert Bentley will have appointed her replacement by the time this issue is reached. The Governor said a person would be appointed who has both judicial and administrative experience. I must say this resignation came as a total surprise to everybody. I would never have believed that Sue Bell Cobb would leave her position early as the top judge in Alabama.
