During the just-completed Regular Session, the Alabama Legislature passed SB 112, which purports to remove the racist and highly-offensive language from the Alabama Constitution, and that was long overdue. The voters will have to approve it in the upcoming election year. Frankly, I doubt that many folks even knew this language was in the document, but the action taken by the Legislature was good and needed. I only wish a bill could be passed that would “outlaw racism” once and for all in this country, but that is wishful thinking for sure. We should know by now, that no legislative body can pass a law that changes the hearts of men.
