It certainly appears that the National Republican Party has literally been taken over by a small segment of the party and that Rush Limbaugh has clearly emerged as the party’s leader. The thought of a person like Limbaugh in charge of anything of substance is a scary thought to say the least! But for him to actually take over a major political party in our country is more than just scary. Many are asking, how could this have happened? In my opinion, it happened because the GOP leadership shut ordinary folks out of their party over the past several years. While the national Republican Party has always been a party run by the elite, now it’s totally controlled by right wing extremists.
Big Rush is telling everybody who will listen that he wants President Obama to fail and as a result, many Republicans, who are good and honorable citizens, are taking a second look at their party. It’s obvious that Limbaugh is very unpopular among the voters that the GOP needs to reach. According to recent polling data, the talk-show host has an unfavorable rating, with 41% of the American people actually saying they dislike him. For obvious reasons, that number is much larger with women.
I have never understood why anybody listens to Limbaugh’s ranting on his radio show. Nevertheless, he does have a very large group of dedicated listeners. But I wonder how many of his listeners have ever checked out his background. In any event, the GOP has to figure out a way to rid itself of Big Rush and yet keep him at the same time. Obviously, that will be difficult – if not impossible!
