A raid by the Governor’s Task Force on Illegal Gambling at the White Hall gaming center on March 19th caught lots of folks by surprise. In that raid, the Task Force, led by Director David Barber, a former Jefferson County District Attorney, seized 101 machines and $560,000 in cash. The Task Force moved in before dawn in the Lowndes County community and started its work with guns drawn, according to media reports. The cash seized was said to be the “take” for three days at the center. This raid has gotten a great deal of attention and it has already landed in court. I am reasonably sure that before long there will be lots more litigation arising out of the raid and related issues.
