The Alabama State Bar will provide some tremendous help to the Alabama Legislature during the Regular Session. The bar created a “Panel of Neutrals” to serve as a resource for all Legislators. The panel will consist of two former Governors, Albert Brewer and John Patterson, Former Federal Magistrate Judge Delores Boyd; two former members of Congress, Jack Edwards and Ronnie Flippo; Butch Ellis, a lawyer and former member of the state Senate; and former Mayor Scotty McCallum. The project was announced by State Bar President Mark White. Mark White should be commended for coming up with this concept. It will be good for Alabama.
The sole motivation for putting this group together was to provide a service to the Legislature. While we recognize the political nature of the Legislative process, this gift should help the men and women who represent our state. This group of distinguished and extremely talented individuals should be of great help to the Legislators who in my opinion will take advantage of this assembly of experience and talent from the Bar.
