The Regular Session Of The Alabama Legislature
The Alabama Legislature will face a most difficult session when the regular session starts on February 3, 2009. The serious lack of money required to operate State government and public education will have to be dealt with. Frankly, the available revenues won’t be adequate to meet even scaled-down budgets. I don’t believe we can afford to allow the funding of education to suffer severe cuts. Neither can essential State services such as Medicaid be cut without causing great difficulty. It will be most interesting to see how Governor Riley and the legislative leadership respond to this crisis.
