United Rentals settles three class action suits

united rentals 280x177United Rentals Inc., the largest U.S. construction-equipment rental company, has settled three class action lawsuits for $27.5 million. The company’s insurance carriers will pay some and defense costs. The lawsuits were filed following an accounting probe by the Securities and Exchange Commission announced in 2004. That is still ongoing and United Rentals says it will enter talks with the SEC. Those involved in the lawsuits are investors who bought United Rentals securities from February 28, 2001, to August 30, 2004.
